2012 Foot Locker South Boy's PreviewPublished by
BOY'S FOOT LOCKER SOUTH PREVIEW Thet Foot Locker South boy’s seeded race promises to be a scorcher. With half of the South’s National Championship team returning one could imagine that Bumbalough’s course record of 14:32 might be in Jeopardy. Below is a glimpse on what DistancePreps.com expects to happen in tomorrow’s race. 1) Sean McGorty (12th) Chantilly – Virginia - Sean has been on fire this season running sub 15 multiple times and winning his races in a dominating fashion. Sean is a former qualifier and the RUN AWAY favorite for tomorrow’s race. If anyone hopes to beat Sean they’ll have to outlast a 14:43 guy with a title of Foot Locker All- American on his resume. Going into the race we wonder, “Can anyone beat this guy?” 2) Jacob Thomson (12th) Holy Cross – Kentucky – Jacob is another returning national qualifier who hopes to be on fire tomorrow. When Thomson raced McGorty at Great American he lost by less than 1 sec. With PR’s of 14:43 for 5k and 8:58 for 3200, don’t count him out in the race for the top South spot. 3) Joshua Brickell (12th) – Peachtree Ridge –Georgia – Josh is the top returning runner in the South this year having run 14:41 for 4th at last year’s South Region. He also ran faster than any of the returners in San Diego and if we rescored 2011’s national meet without the seniors Josh would place 4th. He is coming off a win at the Georgia state meet and will be looking to run his best these next 3 weeks. 4) Robert Domanic (12th) Lewisville Hebron – Texas – After missing the last round of rankings Domanic has come up swinging. Domanic recently won the Texas X-C State championship in a very fast time of 15:04 running almost 40 seconds faster than he did last year on the same course. Domanic is a former qualifier and it is hard to argue with experience. 5) Bakri Abushouk (12th) Cary – North Carolina – This is Bakri’s first time making the top five and could very well finish in the top 3. Abushouk recently won the NC State meet in a time of 15:13 and followed it up with a 9:04 two mile, beating Ben Huffman (9:08) by 4 seconds.
